About Dr. Rachel
As an Osteopath, I am passionate about supporting patients towards moving and living with less pain. With a warm and empathetic nature, I aim to inspire patients to be a leader in their own recovery through education, co-creation of a treatment plan and ongoing reassessment of whether patient goals are being achieved.
With a background as a yoga teacher and competitive gymnast I take a holistic approach, incorporating my knowledge of pain medicine and biomechanics with a body-mind approach to treatment, educating patients on how mindfulness and meditation can improve recovery from pain and injury.
A passionate ongoing learner, I have lectured at both RMIT and VU in anatomy and physiology and have completed professional development in the areas of sports rehabilitation, osteopathy in the cranial field and pediatric/obstetric osteopathy.
I treat a diverse range of patients, from sports injuries through to pregnancy related strain. My areas of special interest include:
Exercise Rehabilitation
Pregnancy, Postpartum and Pediatrics
Breathing difficulties
Stress/anxiety related pain
Persistent/chronic pain
Headaches
I am a fully qualified osteopath registered with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). I attended the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Comp. Med) and a Masters of Osteopathy in 2010.
TREATMENT WITH Dr. Rachel
Osteopathy is a diverse profession with each practitioner having a different treatment style. Below you can read about my approach:
I focus on the person as a whole, not just the body. While science is just beginning to understand the connection between body and mind, Osteopathy has always acknowledged this connection.
I love empowering my patients to be an active part of their recovery, and always take into consideration individual preferences and diversity when developing a treatment plan. I listen to my patients wholeheartedly and work with them to achieve their goals. Taking a truly patient centred approach, I regularly refer to other modalities if I believe the patient’s situation would be better suited to another type of treatment.
I use a combination of gentle techniques aimed at improving nervous system relaxation and fluid movement throughout the body, but also use more firm musculoskeletal techniques such as joint mobilisation, articulation and myofascial release if patients are comfortable and it is safe to do so.
Because of my diverse technique usage I often start out treating one person and end up treating the whole family!
I am passionate about patient education and all of my treatments include a discussion about the problem, opportunities to ask questions and a treatment plan. This may include stretches, rehab exercises, strength training or dietary/lifestyle changes.
Please reach out if you have any further questions about treatment with me via my website.
